Excellent artical. I had such an experience with a GP who began my appointments with curtousy and seemingly some respect and interest. I read well on the updates and news articles on Long covid hoping to find good news on treatments and cures
Then came the slap in the face with a wet fish appointment. My husband was in the room too fortunately.
She looked at me and said "Dont you think you are becoming obsessive about this?"
I almost fell off my chair.
Before I started my response she turned to my husband and said dont you think she is?
I didn't appreciate him being dragged into the conversation, and he does not like confrontation, so he mumbled maybe.
I couldnt believe my ears.
I looked from the GP to My husband in disbelief and said "I cant believe what you 2 have just said to me.
For weeks you have led me to believe you understand what im going through and how difficult this illness is to live with. You have just pulled the rug from under me.
I stood up and sarcastically said thank you for seeing me.
I havent booked an appointment with her since.
I tried to walk away from the surgery a bit as we came out to calm down but fatigue got the better of me and I had to get back in the car
I left it 3 weeks before I made an appointment with the head GP at the practice and I repeated the sad saga of unprofessional performance of the said 'GP' and how she made me feel.
She asked me what outcome I was looking for.
I said I had been at the practice for over 30 satisfied years and didnt want to spoil their reputation.
I wanted her to have some proper training with regards to Long Covid and not allow her to see any long covid patiens until she had better training and understanding. Also that the other Gps were made aware of this situation and that they were all retrained.
People asked if I got an apology.
I didnt. I thought I should have got one on behalf of the surgery. I think they let themselves down.
I didnt want want one from the offending GP as it would have been empty.
This fits well into the point in the article about how some Doctors look down on patienns.
Fantastic information! These recommendations can be used for all patients with chronic conditions.
Thank you - I wish I had this information from the start!

Hope no-one else has had such an experience.
